RPK-74
The RPK-74 is a development of the AK-74 assault rifle for use as a squad level, light support weapon for use with the new, small-caliber ,5.45x39mm ammunition. The RPK-74 was adopted by Soviet Army in the late 1970s and is still in use with the Russian army, being issued usually one per infantry squad (10 men).

The RPK-74 internally is almost the same as an AK-74 rifle - select-fire, gas operated, rotating bolt locked firearm with a heavier and longer, non-removable barrel, bipod, and redesigned buttstock. The RPK-74 can be fed from either 45 or standard AK-74 30 round box magazines.

Special versions of the RPK-74 with a side-mounted IR (night vision) scope are called RPK-74N. Earlier RPK-74 were manufactured with wooden handguards and fixed buttstocks. Most modern RPK-74s are manufactured with polymer handguards and side-folding polymer buttstocks.
